Arthur Nikolay
Vibraphonist
The Vibraphonist Arthur Nikolay,
born in 1996, lives and works in Vienna.
He began taking classical percussion lessons at the Vienna Music School at the age of 8. At the age of 14, he decided to concentrate on the vibraphone and jazz. This decision was reinforced by a family-related stay abroad in the USA, where he was taught vibraphone by Mark Sherman.
After finishing highschool, Arthur first studied law in Vienna. After completing his studies and taking part in the Ö1 Jazz Scholarship, he began studying jazz at the JAM Music Lab with Flip Philipp. He later transferred to the Music and Arts University of Vienna, where he was taught by Harry Demmer.
Arthur is the bandleader of the music formation Elevating Four. With this group he gained a lot of performance experience at events (weddings, birthdays, corporate parties...) and charity concerts as part of the Live Music Now project.
He is a member of the new band Bettdaun - Das Kollektiv; a trio together with Wolfgang Schöbitz (bass, vocals) and Lukas Fellner (drums) that plays unusually orchestrated original compositions in a cross-genre style. The band recorded its debut album in July 2023.
Arthur also performs regularly as a duo or solo in local venues or busking on the street.
